Vocabulary and reading habits are laid down early — and whether a child later sits the OC test, a selective-school test, or a mainstream path, reading is one of the most heavily weighted skills.

但英文不是我们的母语。孩子读不懂一段话，我们常常也说不清是哪个词卡住了——更别说讲给他听。But you can’t be beside them for every word. When a child stalls on a passage, it’s often hard to pin down which single word is the blocker — let alone explain it.

先弄懂一个词：什么是 PM？在澳洲小学，孩子读的书几乎都按 PM 分级（PM Benchmark / PM Levels）排——从 Level 1 的一页一句话，到 Level 30 的整页文章。老师说"他现在读 Level 14"，指的就是它。First, one term: what is PM? In Australian primary schools, reading books are graded on PM Levels (PM Benchmark) — from Level 1, one sentence a page, to Level 30, a full page of text. When a teacher says “she’s on Level 14”, this is what they mean.

所以"英文怎么样"是有刻度的。词汇量撑不起来，PM 层级就上不去。这个测评做的事：把孩子现在能认到哪一层的词、下一层是什么，用你看得懂的方式摆出来。So “how’s their English” has a scale. Without the vocabulary to support it, the PM level can’t climb. This test lays out where your child is on that scale, and what the next step is.

NSW 教育厅不公布任何官方词表、词汇量标准或阅读难度等级。OC 和精英中学的官方成绩单只给"全体考生的前 10% / 接下来 15%"这样的相对位置，连原始分和名次都不提供。

所以上面的 L1–L6 是我们自建的刻度，来自一套为悉尼精英私校与 OC 备考编写的 30 周 900 词词库(难度从 mum / run 一路到 quintessential / ubiquitous)。它不是官方等级，也不能预测录取结果。

它能告诉你的是很具体的一件事：你的孩子现在能稳定认出哪一层的词，下一层是什么。The NSW Department of Education publishes no official word list, vocabulary standard, or reading-difficulty level. Official OC and selective-school reports give only a relative band (“top 10% of all candidates”, “next 15%”), with no raw score or rank.

So the L1–L6 above are our own scale, drawn from a 30-week, 900-word bank written for Sydney selective-school and OC preparation (from mum and run right up to quintessential and ubiquitous). It is not an official level and cannot predict admission.

What it can tell you is very specific: which level of words your child reliably knows now, and what the next level is.
